Did you know that you can charge your hybrid or all-electric vehicle between Arcata and Redding, CA?

The Shasta Regional Transportation Agency (SRTA), with support from Caltrans District 2, submitted an application to nominate State Route 299 from Arcata to Redding as an Alternative Fuels Corridor for electric vehicles.  The Alternative Fuels Corridors is an effort by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) to designate a network of national highways and state routes where alternative fueling and charging infrastructure is located nearby.  Alternative fuel categories include: electric vehicles, natural gas, propane, and hydrogen. Eligible corridors receive one of two designations:

  • "Corridor Ready" - Alternative fueling stations or charging infrastructure are spaced 50 miles or less.
  • "Corridor Pending" - Alternative fueling stations or charging infrastructure are spaced 51-100 miles apart.

SRTA's application was approved by FHWA on April 22, 2021, as part of a national announcement.  The SR-299 corridor received the following designations:

  • "Corridor Ready" from Redding to Douglas City, CA
  • "Corridor Pending" from Douglas City to Arcata, CA
